Capability versus Capacity
Jul 31, 2026Who here feels utterly overwhelmed with the amount of information, requirements, work, pressure, or stress that is being thrown at them daily? We are constantly told that if we would just use THIS new technology that we would get time back by being more efficient, doing more, changing to this method, having this, and on and on.
There is no chance to adjust, integrate, or to experience a good outcome before “someone” is asking you to change again or take on MORE. While change IS a natural part of life, change at the pace we are often promoted to adopt is NOT a sustainable or healthy way for humans to live and thrive.
A friend and I were discussing this topic a couple of weeks ago and I’ve been mulling it over since then. We talked about the fact that you might be CAPABLE of doing something, such as having the skill set and willingness or even a calling to do a particular thing, but where is your current CAPACITY to engage with it?
You might WANT to serve in your community, but do you actually have the time and energy and capacity to do it? Do you have the calling and the health to do it? Does it follow the Divine Laws of Wealth by benefiting both parties? Does it align with your priorities and values? Have you prayed about it? Does it bring MORE energy to you to participate in it? Or would it TAKE more energy?
Even in business we are often presented with multiple options for success and we can let the fear of missing out take over and we try to do ALL the things at once. This can lead to diluted energy and focus and therefore, diluted results. You may be a newly promoted leader who came through the ranks. You might know how to do your previous job and even want to jump in and help, but do you have the capacity to do that as the manager, which has its own roles and responsibilities that would suffer if you jumped back into helping with your previous role.
What areas of your life are you experiencing this CAPABILITY vs CAPACITY conundrum? Are the choices you are making setting you up for the best outcomes for your life? Remember, you matter as much as the next person and “NO” is a complete sentence that you can use when you need it! 😊
As always, I’m here to help if you need it, so please reach out!
