Learned Helplessness and Why It Doesn’t Serve You
Oct 31, 2026In today’s society, people are being rewarded for helplessness. Our current trend of promoting victimhood, learned helplessness, quitting when things are hard, choosing poverty of all kinds, needing special labels and accommodations for every little thing so we do not experience any kind of discomfort is destroying us. It makes us highly dependent on those who wish to enslave and control us. It’s time to stop agreeing with this mindset, choices, and actions!
We used to take pride as a nation in being our best selves, of strengthening ourselves on every level- spiritually, emotionally, mentally, and physically. Let’s get back to that! It’s only a choice you can make for yourself and it may take a lifetime to master certain areas. We often will have a weakness that is a challenge for us all our lives, but it doesn’t mean we can’t work at improving it.
Think about the inspiring stories we all love of people or sports teams that have overcome the most incredible odds to succeed. They make movies out of these examples and we are inspired and empowered when we watch others overcome these challenges. It helps remind us we can do it too.
Now, we all have seasons of life that require us to rest and restore ourselves before we engage back in real life. This isn’t about being a super achiever or working 100 hour weeks. We also have times where we truly have been a victim or need some help. But we all know deep inside ourselves where we can improve because we know it would help us enjoy our daily lives more and help us actually pursue and achieve some of our dreams. Your heart, soul, and intuition know where you have given up on yourself or chosen helplessness, or victimhood. Despair and hopelessness are often used by Satan to tempt us and make us think God won’t help us.
There is no judgement here, but rather an encouragement to step back into life, trust yourself and God, and get back to living.
Ask yourself these questions; consider journaling and praying through them, asking God to show you what you need to change.
- Where have you adopted a “learned helplessness”?
- Where are you making yourself weak where you should be, can be, or actually are strong but are hiding it?
- What criticisms from others are you agreeing with as an identity versus that was simply that person’s perspective?
- Where do you reward yourself for being weak, incompetent, hopeless, and a victim?
- Where are you waiting to be “rescued” when it’s an area that you need to self-rescue?
- Where have you made spiritual and energetic agreements that weaken you versus strengthen you?
- What adds to your weakness? Over-thinking? Not taking action? Action builds belief; completing things builds confidence
- Where are you building “fake” things with your time, money, skills, etc?
- Where do you need to persevere more so you can see the results?
- Where is a hard thing burning away the impurities so you can be stronger, more capable, and productive, and creating higher value?
- Do you hang out with people, places, ideologies, that need you to be “needy, helpless, broken, broken, victim, etc” so you can be controlled, stifled, dependent, weak, or despondent?
- How has learned helplessness or a victim mindset cost you time, money, relationships, work, or your dreams? Is it worth the price?
- What is the underlying cause of this? Your beliefs, habits, thinking, etc? Old experiences or things people did to you?
- Where are you using your own energy against yourself?
- How is choosing to be weak and helpless made you bored, bitter, resentful, anger, frustrated, and anxious?
- How has learned helplessness paid off for you in some way?
- What is one small thing you could do today in one area that would start to turn your life around?
These are tough questions! Don’t be discouraged; but rather, think about a time when you did overcome something hard and good that felt. You CAN do this!
Use your own energy to build yourself up, rather than to tear yourself down in any way. Ask God to help you. Seek other help if you need it. Consider doing a Belief Code session with me to help clear out any unhelpful beliefs and experiences that may be feeding that “victim mindset”. Uprooting these destructive beliefs will really pay off!
Remind yourself daily to create, build, and do real things, with real people, with/for real money, real experiences, real growth, and real life. You’ll be so glad you did!
