How many times have you wondered if you can deliver on projects or goals at work or your personal goals around success and money? Perhaps you are reading self improvement books, working with a coach, watching podcasts, and taking action in certain areas. But you may also have areas where you feel completely unable to move forward, to change, or they cause you a lot of anxiety and worry.

What if there was a way you could actually change yourself and what is holding you back? What if things could actually be easier, more aligned and long lasting than you know? This is where the “energetics” of business can become a powerful tool for change. It must be initiated within you to change, for that is all you can change. You can then influence those around you to do better as they see your improvement.
I’ll share a client story about a 33 year old salesman who needed to improve his results in hitting his sales targets. He was an inconsistent performer, with moments of incredible wins but also some big inconsistencies in delivering on goals that really impacted the bottom line.

 
First, what led to him seeking to figure out his inconsistent performance? He had two large motivators at the time; his first child was due in a few months and the tough economy was causing his company to begin layoffs. His leader had warned him in his last performance review that he was walking a fine line of performance and he could be at risk if the layoffs increased. He also was tired of his income fluctuating so much and the tension it caused with his wife.

 
He was salary based with extra options of commissions and bonuses. He had been with his company for 8 years and had had 3 different direct leaders during that time; one whom he admired and performed well under, one leader who was average and stayed a year, and his current leader whom he felt like he could work with but didn’t really feel like cared about him. He generally had a good relationship with his co-workers and was perceived as a decent, moral person.

When we first met, we went through some baseline questions to see where we could best apply the “energetics of business” tools. First, we looked at his level of energetic alignment in several areas:
Percentage of energetic alignment with his current company- 60%
Percentage of energetic alignment with his current leader- 25%
Percentage of energetic alignment with his current sales goals- 48%
Completing the basic level (keep job) – 63%
Achieving bonus levels- 15%
Being consistently high performing – 15%
Percentage of energetic alignment with his personal financial goals- 75% (provide for his child)

(Note- these percentages do not need to add up to a 100%; they are simply whole unto themselves because it’s each person’s personal energy that is being measured)

Once we had his baseline established, we needed to figure out the best question to ask that we could test for his beliefs. The question we ended up formulating to “test” energetically around was:
“What is the underlying cause that is holding me back from being a consistent high performer with a consistent, high income in order to support my family well?”

We started with the Belief Code™ and we used his own energy to direct us as to what was blocking him. Here is his Belief Tree:
Negative Program (NP): I must be loyal even when it’s not right- age 7 (the team/family/company unit must survive at all costs)
NP: I am unable to find my place in life- age 10
NP: I am a rebel against all authority- age 7
Limiting Beliefs (branches of “belief tree”) I am afraid to tell the truth (because I dread the punishment that’s coming)- age 8
LB: My dad doesn’t love me (unless I perform to his expectations)- age 5 (earning love by performing well)
Faulty Core Belief (trunk of the tree): I don’t have what it takes- age 7 (can’t meet high standards for school & parents)
Faulty Core Identity: (roots of the tree): I must resist authority- age 6
-What is feeding the roots of this Belief Tree: trapped emotional energies of failure, rejection, effort unreceived, helplessness, taken for granted, unsupported, unworthy.

We talked through how these subconscious beliefs were affecting his ability to hit his sales targets; believing he didn’t have what it takes to hit a high standard, not being willing to go against the team, even if he said a better way to do something, and unnecessarily resisting appropriate authority. All of these energetics resistances were affecting his ability to deliver on his sales goals and personal goals and lead to increased stress loads.

 
After we cleared these, we re-tested his percentage of alignment:
Percentage of energetic alignment with his current company- now 80%
Percentage of energetic alignment with his current leader- 55%
Percentage of energetic alignment with his current sales goals- 75%
Completing the basic level (keep job) – 90%
Achieving bonus levels- 55%
Being consistently high performing – 70%
Percentage of energetic alignment with his personal financial goals- 90% (provide for his child)
In the following weeks at work, I had him track his performance numbers as well as how he felt about being at work each week and how his relationship with his leader was going.

He reported back after 6 weeks that he had successfully hit his baseline numbers each week by mid-week and with more mental & emotional ease. He also hit his bonus level numbers 3 times in the 6 weeks, something he hadn’t done in a couple of years. Just as importantly, he felt more comfortable bringing a suggestion to his co-workers about something that could be improved to benefit the whole team. He made the effort to briefly connect daily with his leader in an authentic way and the tension in their relationship began to incrementally dissipate. He also noticed a decrease in his “Sunday evening blues” about dreading going to work on Mondays.
